Abstract
This article explores the enduring influence of Shakespeare’s female characters on modern literature and gender studies. It highlights how characters like Ophelia, Lady Macbeth, and Desdemona have been reinterpreted in contemporary literature and drama to reflect evolving views on gender roles, female agency, and power dynamics. The article discusses how feminist writers and theorists such as Elaine Showalter and Judith Butler have used these characters to critique patriarchal structures and explore gender identity. Through modern adaptations, feminist reinterpretations, and academic discourse, Shakespeare’s women continue to be central to debates bout gender and power in society today.
